The partners at the Christopher Little Literary Agency, Christopher Little and Neil Blair, are pleased to announce the appointment of a new agent, Caroline Hardman.

Caroline Hardman said:
Though I had six great years with The Marsh Agency, I felt that the time was right to look for a new challenge and to try and grow as an agent by seeking new clients myself. I'm really excited to be joining such a prominent agency as The Christopher Little Literary Agency and look forward very much to being a part of helping the agency to expand.
Christopher Little said:
We're delighted to welcome Caroline on board to join our growing team and to introducing new clients to our agency.

THE FINISHING ROOM by Liz Trenow is the winner of the Christopher Little Literary Agency (CLLA) Award 2009, open to students in the final term of City University’s MA in Creative Writing (Novels) course.
The City University course, which launched in September 2004, is distinctive in requiring students to complete a novel. Entirely focused on novel-writing, it respects a wide range of literary genres, from the literary novel through crime fiction and science fiction to fiction for young adults.
Romily Must on behalf of CLLA comments:
“Another close contest this year, but THE FINISHING ROOM emerged as the worthy winner. The beauty and fragility of silk making perfectly reflects the story’s complicated tapestry, and the author’s familial experience of the silk industry adds credibility to the narrative. It is that rare thing - a modern novel with a heart.”
Jonathan Myerson, programme director of the MA course comments:
"Liz's novel is written with tremendous authority - she has a remarkable sense of both period and place. Though delighted, I am also not surprised that she has been recognised in this way. But she is not the only 'winner' - all the students who entered their novels for the award received constructive and genuinely helpful feedback."
Liz Trenow comments:
'I am so grateful to Christopher Little for their generous prize. It is a fantastic confidence boost when completing your first novel to know that their panel of professional editors enjoyed reading your work, and to receive their objective feedback.'
At the heart of THE FINISHING ROOM is a love story in the unusual setting of a silk factory in wartime Britain. Told in parallel strands by an old woman and her younger self, it explores the nature of memory, the burden of inheritance, and how decisions we make in our youth reverberate though our lives and succeeding generations.

SURPLUS BOOKS From time to time we have a surplus of adult's and children’s books and audiotapes in our offices which we would love to donate to good homes. These are often in many different languages as well as in English. We would welcome hearing from any hospitals, libraries and schools in the near vicinity who would be able to collect from our Fulham (London) offices. If this sounds of interest, please contact info@christopherlittle.net with full details of your organisation, and the type of genres and languages that you would be interested in. No individuals please.
